About CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a light touch, whole body treatment technique developed by John E. Upledger, DO, OMM. The therapy works with the body’s craniosacral system, comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord of the central nervous system. CST works with the natural and unique rhythms of the different body systems such as neurological, immune, lymph, fascia/muscle, skeletal, and circulatory to pin point and address problem sources. It helps alleviate the aches, pains, and strains of life while improving coping mechanisms to allow for better management of stress. It assists with improving the body’s ability to self-care and can produce profound, positive changes. By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used for preventive health because of it’s ability to bolster resistance to disease and is effective for a wide range of associated medical problems including:
- Migraine headaches
- Post-concussion syndrome
- Post-whip lash
- Low back pain
- Chronic neck pain
- Auto-Immune disorders
- Orthopedic problems
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Temporal Mandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ)
- Fibromyalgia
- Post-surgical dysfunction
- Scoliosis
- Nervous system diorders
- Muscular or fascial injuries
- Learning or Emotional disabilities
- Chronic fatigue / stress and tension
- Colic and breast feeding issues
- Traumatic brain / spinal cord injuries
About Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy (OT) Although OT sounds like it would be job related, it is not. That is Vocational rehabilitation. Occupational Therapy focuses on our daily “occupations” or activities of daily living. This included physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Occupational Therapy was founded in mental health, in which people were taught different activities to improve their self-esteem, self-awareness, self motivation, and assertiveness.
Christine has worked as an Occupational Therapist since graduating from the University of New England in 1993. Her niche is CranioSacral Therapy. Christine has focused her career on pain and how pain interferes with activities of daily living with a multi-Dimensional approach affecting body, mind, emotion, and spirit.
Infants
Infants respond favorably to CranioSacral Therapy because of their developing physiology, the central nervous system is especially accepting to the technique. Even a single session can help an infant achieve priceless benefits, ranging from improved ability to nurse to improved sensory perception resulting in overall calmness. Additional sessions can extend and strengthen these outcomes, which may help in creating a lifetime of good health.
CranioSacral Therapy has been shown to help infants with: Birth stress, colic, digestive disorders, reflux, lactation issues, tongue and lip ties, neuromuscular disorders, chronic ear infections, developmental immune disorders, emotional difficulties, sensory processing disorder, torticollis, hydrocephalus, and many more. By gently freeing the restrictions of the central nervous system, CranioSacral Therapy reduces pain, stress, and strengthens resistance to disease.
